I am never sure whether to rate these objectively or subjectively. I liked it enough to rate it 4 stars, but it's probably a 3 story film. Reading the synopsis I thought it was going to be about computer hackers, but it's actually a found footage film.
Hide the Monster clearly takes cues from other haunted house found footage films such as Paranormal Activity (2007), in which tension is built gradually through slow pacing and a steady reveal of back-story. The presentation and style of Hide the Monster is very reminiscent of these films.
With all that being said, Hide the Monster wasn't gripping or memorable. It was passable. If you enjoy found footage and want something to pass the time or have on in the background this movie is an acceptable option.
